Who is Umbosky
Every magician has an origin.
This one begins with a box.
It all begins with a gift: a magic set signed by Silvan, the great Italian illusionist. And with the Terence Hill and Bud Spencer films, where at the poker table the cards obeyed mysterious hands. They belonged to Tony Binarelli, though he would only find that out much later.
A few months later comes the first show. Its title: “Umbosky and Madame Zaza”. Madame Zaza is his sister, playing the assistant, and Umbosky is him. The name is born that evening, and it will never leave him.
No photos or videos of that show survive. Perhaps it was his first true vanishing act.
Then the years of study: a degree in physics, a thesis in theoretical astrophysics on the dynamical evolution of disk galaxies. A passion for mathematics, for puzzles, for the paranormal, explored with the critical eye of CICAP, the Italian society for the investigation of claims of the paranormal. Long journeys, cultures and spiritualities far from his own.
Magic, meanwhile, waits patiently.
Meeting the Circolo Amici della Magia, a circle of magicians, rekindles everything. The obstinate study of card magic and cheating techniques, the first formal close-up performances at the Circle. Which has been his home ever since.
For Umbosky, magic is an art that demands dedication, acting and constant practice. And the greatest reward is not the applause: it is that moment of silence when the spectator stops looking for an explanation.
